I got the idea from a bud (props VJ) at work to give my G2 (HTC Vision) a facelift / Gingerbread update with CyanogenMod . I messed it up a few times… 3rd times the charm ya know. Here are some notes about what went right / wrong.
First a few links:

Used VISIONary to “perma root”.
Backup original VIRGIN ROM FIRST with ROM Manager.
Backup all SD card data.
Update radio baseband (improves battery life and radio functions)..
Now to some of the bad stuff:
OK first & second mistake I got into a bootloop twice from troubleshooting what I am sure is an Titanium Backup issue. When I did my backup ROM & SD card I also used Titanium Backup for app data and settings in the thinking that I could just flash and then bam run Titanium Backup and have all my app data ready to go. Each time I re-flashed the ROM everything would work great but then I would use Titanium Backup restore App+Data and immediately after I would get these random msg “Sorry! The process android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.”. I read that running permission fix in the ROM Manager App could help… each time I did that I got into a bootloop..
Good news is I was wise and took backups ROMs before starting so just refreshed using the troubleshooting method outlined in this helpful guide got me back up.
REMEMBER TO BACKUP YOUR VIRGIN ROM!!!
I am still using Titanium Backup but this time I took a Backup ROM when Cyanogenmod 7 was tweaked just right. Also avoid repairing permissions in the ROM Manager.
Some of the key bennies I can see already:
Longer batter life
More control of everything…
Neat new animations.
The automatic backlight control is tweakable… so much better now!
“Render effects” – Night aka club mode (All red), allows for changing of the color temperature.
Theres sooo much in this mod I have just barely scratched the surface…
